Stop by the APK for November First Friday!
The Alaska State Museum is open with FREE admission for First Friday from 4:30-7:00pm.
Joe Emerson will be playing guitar from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. Joe is well known in Juneau for his music and "Shoreline Wild Salmon" business.
Come see the opening of the new exhibition, Joel Isaak Liq'a Yes: Honoring the Ordinary!
Part of the Alaska State Museum Solo Artist Exhibition Series, the installation Honoring the Ordinary creates opportunities for moments of discovery, intrigue, and possibly discomfort by considering the survivance of Salmon Culture in Alaska today. For those who have never experienced a strong salmon run, this installation creates an opportunity to immerse in the sensory experience of salmon culture. For those losing access to salmon because the salmon can no longer return, this installation provides a way to honor the salmon, the people, and the cultures that have shaped one another for thousands of years. The installation brings the outdoors into the gallery space, recognizing Alaska's connection to salmon as something to be honored, cherished, and protected.
The artist will give a talk about their work at 7:00pm in the APK Lecture Hall. This exhibition runs through January 11, 2025.
We hope to see you there!
