Stop by the APK for October First Friday!

The Alaska State Museum is open with FREE admission for First Friday from 4:30-7:00pm.

There will be a drop-in Chilkat Tassel Making Workshop with weavers Shaawat Gé Rae Ann Mills and Melina Meyer, Kwáashk’ikwáan. Come make a tassel while supplies last!

Melina Meyer, Kwáashk’ikwáan, is Lingít and Sugpiaq and lives on the Eyak homelands in Cordova, Alaska. She studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco then returned home to help with the family business and take care of her grandmother. She is constantly making things, teaching classes, or taking classes. Melina started weaving in a local Ravenstail class, then virtually with Lily Hope in 2020.

Meyer and Mills are part of the collective of weavers that wove finger-twined Chilkat Protector masks, currently on display in Protection: Adaptation & Resistance.

Lou Logan will also be in the Museum Gallery talking about Iñupiaq skin-on-frame qayaq and his work.

We hope to see you there!
